BANFERA, 1 Aug: A team from Guwahati (Assam)-based National Research Centre on Pig (NRCP) conducted an urgent diagnostic field visit to Banfera village in Longding district recently, following reports of health issues affecting local pig populations.
The proactive intervention aimed to quickly diagnose the ailment, collect vital samples, and provide immediate treatment to support the affected farmers. The visiting team comprised senior scientist Dr Jowar Doley, scientist Dr Priyajoy Kar, NRCP scientist Dr Lokesh E, and Longding KVK ACTO Dr Tilling Tayo.
Upon arrival, the team promptly examined an affected pig, which exhibited clear signs of illness, including lethargy, a significant loss of appetite, and noticeable laboured breathing. To pinpoint the cause of the disease, blood samples were collected from the ailing animal for detailed laboratory analysis at the NRCP’s advanced facilities.
In addition to sample collection, the scientists conducted thorough preliminary physical and clinical examinations on-site, assessing the animal’s vital signs and overall condition. The affected pig was administered intravenous saline drips to combat dehydration and restore essential electrolyte balance.
