Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja announced that all building construction permits in Arunachal Pradesh will henceforth be issued exclusively through an online system. The Online Building Permission System (OBPS) has been developed specifically to streamline the process of obtaining construction permits across the state.
The OBPS is a collaborative initiative of the Town and Country Planning Organization under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and the Directorate of Town Planning, Department of Urban Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, with technical support provided by NIC Shillong. To support the system, the Directorate of Town Planning will transition its website from a static to a dynamic platform, the minister added.
This shift marks a good step towards transparency and efficiency in urban planning. As the system evolves, it may offer a structured way to document and regulate construction activities across the state, fostering accountability and clarity. The success of such a digital transition will likely depend on seamless implementation, public cooperation, and ongoing technical support.
