SHILLONG, 7 Aug: A group of 100 students from all the Northeastern states visited key ISRO centres in Bengaluru, as part of an initiative to expose them to space science and technology, officials said on Thursday.
The students from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura made the trip under the North East Students’ Programme for Awareness, Reach and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS), a joint initiative by ISRO, the North Eastern Council (NEC) and state governments of the region.
The third batch of the student visit was conducted from 24-25 July, and included an interactive tour of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and the Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) on the first day, where students engaged with senior scientists and gained insights into deep space communication systems, the officials said.
On the second day, the students explored the UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), learning about satellite integration and testing processes, they said.
The visit concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium with a screening of a documentary on the ‘Gaganyaan Mission’, India’s ambitious human spaceflight programme.
The NE-SPARKS programme will cover 800 students in total, spread over eight batches. (PTI)
