DIYUN, 18 Sep: A shocking incident unfolded in Matripur block in Diyun circle of Changlang district on Tuesday evening when a newborn male baby was found abandoned in a paddy field.

The infant was discovered by local resident Asha Dewan, who immediately rushed him to the community health centre [CHC] here.

The baby was alive, requiring urgent medical attention. Doctors and nursing staff at the CHC provided immediate first aid and kept the newborn under close supervision. After several hours of observation, the baby’s condition was declared stable and out of danger.

Authorities have not yet identified the biological mother. In accordance with child protection laws and other legal obligations,

the newborn was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee [CWC] and the District Child Protection Unit. The legal process of tracing the biological parents has begun.

Meanwhile, the local police have launched an investigation to trace those responsible for the abandonment.

Community members have expressed both shock and concern over the incident, and have sought stricter vigilance to prevent such cases.
