LONGDING, May 12: Eighty-seven people without Inner Line Permits (ILP) were rounded up by the Longding unit police during an intensive check drive carried out here on Saturday.
All the apprehended people have been booked under Sec 3 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act.
The door-to-door checking drive was conducted by a team of 60 police personnel led by Officer-in-Charge of Longding Police Station, C Lowang under the close supervision of Deputy Commissioner V S Malik and Superintendent of Police Rohit Meena.
The administration has been put up on high alert in view of warnings and inputs received regarding influx of illegal migrants from Assam.
In the recent time, it has been reported that illegal migrants in Assam were moving towards the state due to National Register of Citizen (NRC) checking.
Longding SP Rohit Meena stated that the police personnel are fully geared up to tackle the issue. All border entry gates have been put on alert for thorough checking.
Deputy Commissioner V S Malik has issued warning to all the contractors to refrain from employing labourers without ILPs.
