ITANAGAR, Jul 4: Member of Parliament Ninong Ering knocked the door of the union home ministry to transfer the Oijing Taying death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Parliamentarian from the state on Tuesday urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to immediately shift the case to the premier investigation agency to expedite the investigation and deliver justice to the victim, stating that the state police have failed to make any breakthrough in the case.
“I am deeply pained with the fact that even after 11 months, the investigating agency failed to make any headway in the case,” Ering wrote in a letter to the Union Home Minister on 3 July.
“A brutal murder of a young and promising youth can not remain inconclusive and the culprit(s) must be brought to book,” Ering said in his letter
Meanwhile, the All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU) has taken strong reservation over the state government’s alleged reluctance to transfer the case of late Taying to the CBI.
“We fail to understand why the state government is so reluctant to handover the case to the CBI, whereas it has transferred the death case of late Toko Yame to the premier investigation agency,” AESDSU said in a representation to the chief minister.
The student organization alleged that the state Home department, despite repeated pleas and rallies, did not pay heed to the demand for handing over the case to the CBI.
“We feel the department itself is shielding the culprits involved,” the AESDSU said in its representation, and raised question over the integrity and efficiency of the state police department.
The student organization demanded that the chief minister transfer the case to the CBI without any further delay, failing which, it threatened to launch rigorous democratic movement, including series of bandh calls until justice is delivered or the case is handed over to the CBI.
