ITANAGAR, Aug 1: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has welcomed and applauded the decision of Dr Taba Nirmali for refusing to join as chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) and wished her “good luck in her future endeavours”.
“Her bold and visionary decision reflects the fighting spirit and sacrifice of women for the greater interest and welfare of the society and is a huge victory against forces making scapegoat out of women for appeasement politics”, the APWWS said in a release.
The APWWS maintained that it is not against any individual, but is against the state government for making “illegal and arbitrary” appointments in the 5th body of the APSCW.
“Such an arbitrary act of the state government will have future implications and become a precedent unless it is rectified”, it said.
The APWWS hoped that “the two remaining members of the APSCW would also realize what the APWWS is fighting for and take a bold and visionary decision like Dr Taba Nirmali to strengthen the women’s movement and pave way for constitution of a legally appointed APSCW”.
