JONAI, (Assam), Aug 2: The Women Against Social Evil recently held a meeting with the Mising Students’ Union and the village defence party (VDP) here and discussed the alarming rise of the drugs trade along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary area.
The organizations expressed concern over the trade of narcotics and psychotropic substances running unhindered along the boundary area. They observed that, although the police and excise departments of both the states have arrested many people involved in the illicit trade, the conviction rate is very low in these cases.
The participants resolved to make joint efforts to control the drug menace in the area.
Meanwhile, Leku Jelom model village in Assam, bordering Ruksin in Arunachal, has been marked as a “red light area of drugs trade.”
