NAMSAI, Aug 14: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated a slew of infrastructure here on Tuesday, in the presence of local legislator Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma.
Mein inaugurated the two-storied new office of the urban development & housing (UD&H) deputy director and the urban programme officer, and the new administrative block-cum-office of the district’s hospital’s medical superintendent.
In his address, the DCM asked the UD&H department to come up with a proposal for a proper drainage system in Namsai township. He assured to provide fund for the survey and investigation, and also assured to provide fund for the construction of the boundary wall around the new DUDA office.
“Namsai being a new district, it should be developed as a model district,” he said.
Mein said the fund provided by the government for construction of CC road in the township should be implemented judiciously. He also asked the UD department to digitalize Namsai district in collaboration with the IT department and to provide free wi-fi services in Namsai town and tourist sites like Tengapani.
The DCM informed that three MLAs of Namsai district would contribute Rs 1 crore each from the SIDF for infrastructure development of the district hospital.
Mein along with Namchoom also released larvivorous fish into the newly-constructed fish hatchery at the district hospital. The fish hatchery, which is said to be the second of its kind and the largest in the state, was constructed with Rs 6 lakh from the DCM’s MLALAD fund.
The matured fish will be later released into the stagnant water bodies in the township after 3-6 months, as they will eat mosquito larvae and help in controlling malaria.
Later in the evening, Mein and Namchoom held a series of meetings with HoDs, officers of the Spice Board of India, headmasters and principals, members of the Tai Singpho Council and the All Tai Khamti Literary & Heritage Society, and others. Issues including improvement of education, farmers’ welfare, and preservation and promotion of tribal literature and culture were discussed. (DCM media cell)
