PASIGHAT, Aug 23: The East Siang district administration has lifted the ban on the import of fish from other states; but the ban on import of formalin-treated fishes will be continued.
Fish import was banned in the district last month in the wake of the formalin scare, and it was lifted on Wednesday night.
The state government had banned import of fish in June after the Food and Drugs Administration’s initial report confirmed the presence of formalin, a toxic chemical, in them.
East Siang DMO Dr M Perme said the fish vendors are permitted to sell fishes in the market but it should be as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act 2006.
