LIKABALI, Sep 4: Liromoba MLA Nyamar Karbak on Tuesday announced that a government college would soon be established here, the headquarters of Lower Siang district, in memory of former health & family welfare minister late Jomde Kena.
Karbak, who was at Gensi near here to attend the inaugural ceremony of the first Jomde Kena Memorial Volleyball Tournament, made the announcement on behalf of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who could not attend the function due to inclement weather.
“Establishment of a government college here has been a long felt demand, that too in the name of one of the most popular and loved leaders of the area, and it will soon come true, thanks to the pro-people approach of the state government led by CM Pema,” said Karbak.
Kena passed away on 4 September last year after a prolonged illness.
Karbak said Kena would always remain in the hearts of the people for the contributions he made for the all-round development of the region in particular and the state as a whole as an MLA and minister.
Karbak also highlighted the recently cleared Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board Bill, and said the bill would help root out any scope of corruption in recruitment.
“The government is taking various initiatives to root out corruption from the state. Hence, it is also the responsibility of the public to support such positive endeavours of the government,” Karbak said, and urged the people to shun the cash-for-votes culture.
The MLA advised the participants of the volleyball tournament to play the game in true sportsman spirit.
Circle Officer Tajum Ronya also spoke.
Also present on the occasion were Tax & Excise Minister Jarkar Gamlin, Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra, and MLAs Gojen Gadi and Kardo Nyigyor.
More than 10 teams from East Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Siang and Siang districts are participating in the tournament.
