PASIGHAT, Oct 11: The officials of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary (AH&V) department in East Siang district have conducted a mass Mithun vaccination programme against the foot and mouth disease (FMD) as part of its outreach programme at Ledum village. More than hundred Mithuns were vaccinated and Mithun farmers were guided on medication and other related veterinary care.
While inaugurating the vaccination camp, ADC (Hq) T Borang lauded the efforts of AH&V department in Mithun conservation. Mithun is considered as one of the most important economic assets in the tribal society, he said while encouraging the villagers to opt for scientific approach for Mithun farming.
Stressing on regular vaccination, DVO Dr. Jikom Panor said that FMD causes severe economic losses to the Mithun farmers in hilly region of North East. He appreciated the GBs for mobilizing the farmers to take part in the camp.
Among others, Dr. N. Taloh (KVO), senior veterinary officers Dr. Tagum Tamut and Dr. Tadar Tatik, GBs Tatiram Padung and Tayam Dupak, and Tajan Taying and Tator Radeng, President and Secretary respectively of All Mithun Owner Welfare Association, Ledum also spoke on the occasion.
Notably, Ayeng, Ledum and Mirem villages have high density of Mithun population in the district and the AH&V department has given special emphasis on Mithun farming as a viable economic activity. DIPRO
