After a long wait finally two of the state’s premier educational institutes recently got their respective head. The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jote and Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Doimukh were functioning without regular director and vice chancellor for last many months. This had lead to deterioration in the functioning of these institutes. The quality of education was badly affected. However, the joining of Prof P Mohanta as new director of NIT and Prof Saket Kushwaha as new VC of RGU has given ray of hope to the people of state.
The appointment of full time director and VC is expected to considerably improve the functioning of the two institute. The people of Arunachal Pradesh in particularly the student communities look upto institutes like NERIST, RGU and NIT for quality education. But unfortunately in recent years they have been mostly in news for all the wrong reasons. The allegations of corruption and poor quality infrastructure work have tarnished the image of RGU. On the other hand the NIT is yet to shift to its permanent campus at Jote despite immense pressure from MHRD. The failure to shift to permanent campus has posed serious question mark over the future of NIT Arunachal itself. Therefore onus lies with new VC and director to set things in order. The entire state is pinning hope on Prof Saket Kushwaha and Prof P Mohanta, both of whom are highly qualified and learned, to change the fortune of RGU and NIT.
