ITANAGAR, Oct 13: Along with the rest of the world, the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed with various disaster management awareness programme across Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.
At Itanagar, to commensurate the International Day for Disaster Reduction, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Capital Complex in collaboration with NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) 12th Bn Doimukh conducted a mock exercise on earthquake at Arunadaya Higher Secondary school.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DDMA, Prince Dhawan informed that the mock drill has been conducted with an aim to educate people on how to conduct themselves during disasters. The DC stressed that it would be a learning experience for everyone to know their role in case of disasters.
Disaster Management Director, Kanto Danggen appealed everyone to take interest in the mock drill as it will provide basic knowledge regarding various safety tips during disasters. He also informed that the aim of the mock drill was to make the people, especially children aware on disaster management.
Highlighting the aim of the programme, the DDMO Moromi Sonam spoke of the role of the EOCs (Emergency Operating Centres) and also informed about the 24 hrs toll free helpline number ‘1077’ issued by the DDMA.
FO DM Jogam Angu also briefed on basic do’s and don’ts during disaster.
Earlier, the NDRF team gave brief demonstration on the basic techniques of rescue during disaster.
At Ziro, participating in the programme which was organized to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction, Deputy Commissioner, Kemo Lollen lauded the efforts of the Disaster Management Department in creating awareness. He also suggested for holding such programs on larger scale for greater outreach.
Referring to the frequent fire accidents in Ziro, he appealed to the citizens to refrain from illegal power tapping, which is the main cause for fire accidents.
SFO Tage Lampung and his team from the fire services, gave demonstrations on rescue techniques during disasters. Lampung also deliberated on various safety measures during fire accidents.
At Aalo, International Day for Disaster Reduction was observed at Karpu Kendriya Vidyalaya School by DDMA in collaboration with APP, Aalo.
On the occasion SFO, Imme Ngomdir along with his team from fire station, Aalo, spoke on disaster, its causes and precautionary measures.
Mock drill on disaster management, demonstration on use of fire extinguisher and ropes are the part of the programme.
At Yupia, the International Day for Disaster Reduction was observed in a befitting manner at Upper Primary School, Yupia Hq.
Addressing the students on the occasion, DC cum Chairman DDMA, Tai Kaye advised the students to stay safe and always prepared for any disaster. He further asked the students to share the knowledge gain through the programme to their parents.
Earlier, DDMO in-charge, Y. Jerang briefed the students about the International Day of Disaster Reduction.
16-member team of 12th Bn NDRF team lead by Inspector Akilesh Kumar gave demonstration on School safety programme, safety tips on earthquake, fire, landslide and flood. All teachers and students were present during the programme.
At Roing, mock exercises on earthquake, fire accident and flood like situation were conducted by Fire Service personnel of Roing headed by S FO Mobya Tada at Middle School, New-Colony to mark the International day for Disaster Risk Reduction. School children, teaching staff and general public participated the programme.
Earlier, Roing DDMO explained about the importance of the day and role of the Disaster Management Department.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management department, in a release informed that mock exercises on disaster management were also conducted at GHSS, Mahadevpur, Namsai, Gandhi Secondary School, Pasighat, Kenkhu ME School, Changlang, ME School, Longding, GHSS, Tawang, Govt ME School, Type -II Colony, Seppa to mark the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction.
