ITANAGAR, Nov 12: A skill development training programme on general automobile, tailoring and plumbing for unemployed youths got underway at Khatting Hills near here on Monday.
Organized by the capital complex administration in collaboration with the ITBP’s Northeast frontier headquarters here, the programme is being attended by 54 trainees.
Skill Development Secretary Onit Panyang, who inaugurated the training, emphasized the need to impart such training to arm the youths with necessary knowledge and skills.
“There are lots of opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state, especially in machinery works; but they lack proper skills in this field,” he said, adding that most of the machinery works are being done by outsiders.
Briefing about various state- and centrally-sponsored schemes for the unemployed youths, Panyang informed that more than 600 state-sponsored youths are currently undergoing training in various parts of the country in various sectors.
He said the skill development department has a target of training around 8,000 candidates in various fields.
ITBP IG Sanjeev Raina said, “Empowering someone with skill is better than feeding him once.”
He sought cooperation from the secretary to conduct such training programmes at par with the training programmes organised at the national level.
Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan urged the youths to attend the training sincerely and learn as much as possible, saying the state government is focusing on empowering the youths to become self-reliant.
“The state will need skilled persons with the coming up of so many new infrastructures across the state,” he said.
The DC also spoke about the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swalamban Yojana, which is specifically for skilled youths, and assured every help from the administration in availing the scheme once the trainees complete their course.
