KARSINGSA, Nov 25: An eco-camp located on the Emchi-Karsingsa island here was inaugurated on Friday evening by Papum Pare SP Tumme Amo and PWD SE Techi Ratu.
The eco-camp is located in the middle of the Pare river, on the island. Run by NGO Being Arunachalee, the camp will remain open from November to March every year.
Addressing the inaugural function, Amo and Ratu expressed happiness over the initiative of Being Arunachalee.
“If the youths of the state continue to come up with such innovative ideas, we will definitely extend our helping hand,” the duo said.
The camp, spread over the vast island, is a visitor’s delight. It has impressive facilities like a snooker zone, local traditional sports, a music café, local and international cuisines, traditional huts, firewood camps, children’s play ground, etc.
River rafting and powered paragliding facilities are also going to be added to the facilities.
Speaking to this daily, Being Arunachalee president Kuku Ringu said, “We are running this camp basically for charity, and secondly, to provide employment opportunities to the youths. Whatever we earn during the four months of running the eco-camp, the majority will go to charity work.”
He said the camp has been set up with contributions from the NGO’s members. “We have not collected a single penny from the government or any other source,” Ringu said.
“Many highly qualified youths from various tribes and fields are working in the camp,” he informed. “More than 150 boys and girls are currently working in the camp. We would like show a model to the people of Arunachal that, even without seeking fund from the government, one can successfully run charity organizations.”
Ringu appealed to the chief minister to identify and support NGOs which are actually working for the people.
“People have made NGOs a business to earn, which is wrong. We have high hopes from a young leader like Pema Khandu to steer the state in the right direction. Hopefully, the chief minister will incorporate innovative ideas of the youths and use them for further development of the state,” Ringu said.
The camp will remain open throughout the week.
“It can be used for picnics, family events, corporate parties, etc. We would also like to encourage talented youths of the state from various fields, including music, sports, painting, magic, etc, who like to perform to come and be part of the eco-camp initiative,” said Ringu.
