ITANAGAR, Dec 21: Governor BD Mishra on Friday said the swachhta mission, which nobody had taken seriously earlier, “has become a mass movement at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the result is now being seen in the villages, towns and cities.”
The governor was addressing the state’s newly-nominated swachhta preraks (mission motivators) under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) during a meeting at Raj Bhavan here.
The nine newly-nominated swachhta preraks are Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Joram Begi, former CIC YD Thongchi, State Election Commissioner Hage Kojeen, RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, NIT Director Prof Pinakeswar Mahanta, NERIST Director Prof HS Yadav, TRIHMS Director Dr Moji Jini and RK Mission Hospital Secretary Swami Vishweshananda.
Mishra exhorted the preraks to bring a change in the people’s mindset towards cleanliness, and to “develop a roadmap for a cleaner, healthier and greener Arunachal.”
“Our people do behave in the best civic manners, provided they are motivated and led well,” he observed.
The swachhta preraks spoke about their actions and experiences vis-à-vis the ongoing SBA in the state.
Earlier, PHED Commissioner Marnya Ete, Urban Development Secretary SK Jain, Education Special Secretary Rahul Singh and Art & Culture Additional Secretary Opak Gao briefed the governor and the preraks on the schemes and projects taken up under the SBA.
The nominated SBA brand ambassadors are chosen in a line of chains of nominees nominated by the prime minister to promote the idea of Swachh Bharat at the grassroots level. (Raj Bhavan)
