ITANAGAR, Feb 5: The chief electoral officer (CEO) has imposed restriction on granting of leave of absence to the state government employees, in view of the forthcoming simultaneous parliamentary and assembly elections.
The CEO has directed the state’s commissioners, secretaries and heads of departments not to grant any form of leave of absence to the government employees from the first week of March till the completion of the elections.
The CEO said, however, that prior approval from the deputy commissioners/district electoral officers concerned may be obtained in exceptional cases.
“The Election Commission of India has directed to effect transfer/posting of officers in view of the forthcoming simultaneous elections… Preparatory works for smooth conduct of elections have already been started in the entire state. It will be difficult if any staff is found absent during the time of trainings or any other election works. Considering the above, and the time-bound nature of elections, granting of all kinds of leave to the government employees may not be done from the first week of March 2019 till completion of the elections,” a statement from the CEO read.
“In exceptional cases, prior approval from the concerned DCs/DEOs may be obtained. Further, government employees of all districts (in particular Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi and Longding) be directed to attend the training on EVM/VVPATs as and when asked to by the DCs/DEOs,” it added.
