ITANAGAR, Feb 6: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to the state, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has raised several issues and problems of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the education sector, for prompt action by the central government to resolve the problems.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Arunachal Pradesh on 9 February to lay the foundation stone for Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, besides inaugurating and laying the foundation for several other important projects.
Some of the major demands of the AAPSU are renovation of all old school infrastructures, making Rajiv Gandhi University fully residential, solving the Tibetan, Chakma and Hajong refugee issue, creation of separate IAS cadre for Arunachal Pradesh, finding a permanent solution to inter-state boundary disputes and maintaining peace and tranquillity along the international border.
In a press release, the AAPSU said that school infrastructures that were developed or built during the North East Frontier Agency days, have outlived their usefulness and they need immediate renovation and replacement.
On the refugee issue, it said that “the continued influx of illegal Chakma and Hajong migrants has outnumbered the legally brought Chakmas and Hajongs in the state.”
The AAPSU also alleged encroachment of the Namdapha National Park by the illegal migrants and their involvement in criminal activities.
“Further, their exceptional population growth as compared to the local indigenous tribes, like Singphos, Khamtis and Tangsas is posing another major threat having potential to bring demographic imbalance,” the AAPSU said and urged the government to find a concrete solution to it.
Meanwhile, the AAPSU welcomed Modi’s proposed visit to the state to lay the foundation for the airport and described it as historic.
