OYAN, Feb 8: The Guwahati (Assam) office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday conducted a financial literacy programme at Oyan village in East Siang district, in collaboration with the Sille branch of the Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank (APRB).
Guwahati RBI officials Gautam Dhar and Amitab Pandey highlighted the financial services, such as savings, recurring and fixed deposit accounts, loan (credit) schemes and insurance schemes that are available with financial institutions.
The officials advised customers to lodge complaints pertaining to banking irregularity with the banking lokayukta. They also highlighted the techniques of detecting fake currency notes.
Sille APRB Branch Manager Ashim Roy urged the villagers to avail the benefits offered by the government through the bank.
Responding to a demand from the villagers to rename the Sille APRB branch as Oyan branch, the RBI officials directed the branch manager to put up the proposal with the State Level Bankers’ Committee in Itanagar for approval.
The RBI officials will conduct more such programmes, covering different rural areas of East Siang, next week.
