ITANAGAR, Feb 28: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has directed the chief secretary to move the files for immediate release of ex gratia of Rs 20 lakhs to the next of kin of each of the deceased and upto Rs 10 lakhs medical relief for those injured in the recent anti-PRC agitation.
Khandu, who held a high level meeting to review the law and order situation in the state capital on Wednesday, called for revamping the entire police machinery to effectively tackle large-scale rioting in the future, and instructed all the officers concerned to “immediately buckle up and get back to work.”
He directed the officials concerned to strictly monitor the situation and ensure regular police patrolling in all the sensitive areas of the state capital, “so that the confidence of the people can be gained for their regular activities to resume without fear.”
“Though the protests in the last few days were against the government, in the mayhem, many private properties were damaged, shops looted, malls ransacked,” Khandu said.
The protests were also fuelled by unwanted elements, he said, adding that all such involvement will be investigated and those responsible booked as per the law.
“The protesting student community cannot be blamed for the losses of private properties and large-scale arson and looting, but the unwanted elements,” Khandu said, adding that “such unwanted elements will be traced out and will be booked.”
The chief minister further assured to put in place all possible security measures to alleviate the fear among the traders. (CMO)
