Orgs demand resignations over capital chaos

ITANAGAR, Mar 1: Alleging a “series of wrong decisions and unruly governance,” the All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organisation, the All Arunachal Motor Transport Federation, the Arunachal Students’ Federation, the All Arunachal Pradesh Unemployed Union, the All Capital Complex Government Registered Contractor Organisation, and the Arunachal People’s Front have demanded that Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy CM Chowna Mein and JHPC chairman and Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia step down from their respective posts.
In a joint representation to the governor, the organizations said the state government’s “wrongful decisions and misgovernance led to the loss of lives and massive damages of public properties in the state during the recent past.”
Citing the example of the anti-dam movement in Tawang, in which two people lost their lives, and the government’s decision to defer the municipal and panchayati raj elections “without reasonable ground,” besides many other issues, the organizations said the announcement to grant PRCs to non-APSTs as a new year gift had led to the protests which resulted in the loss of three lives, injuries to several others, and massive destruction of public and government properties in the capital region.
The organizations also demanded immediate suspension of Capital Complex DC and SP for their “inept handling of the recent tense situation in the capital city,” and the firing which led to the death of Risso Tari, Biki Ruja and Tsering Wangdi.
They demanded immediately initiating a judicial inquiry, headed by a high court judge, into the death of the three youths.
The organizations threatened to launch a “rigorous movement” if their demands are not met within two days.
