DUMPORIJO, Jun 26: Informing that the Maro-Baririjo road under Dumporijo circle of Upper Subansiri district has been blocked for over five days due to a landslide at Leriak Point, the Galo Students’ Union (GSU) on Wednesday appealed to the department concerned to immediately clear the road.
“This is the fourth time within this month that the same stretch of road is blocked due to landslides, triggered by heavy downpour,” the union said, adding that locals of the area have cleared the road by themselves on several occasions, without any involvement of the concerned authorities.
Alleging that the department concerned is not taking any corrective measures despite the matter being reported to them several times, the GSU lamented that due to frequent road blockade traffic movement is also stalled.
“General public is facing a lot of problems in transportation of essential commodities,” the GSU claimed, adding: “People cannot move from the area even during medical emergencies.”
The union also appealed to the local MLA to instruct the concerned department to immediately restore the road.
“Failing to restore the road will invite democratic movement from the people of area against the concerned department,” it added.
