ZIRO/ TAWANG, Jun 26: Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner in-charge Gombu Tsering has directed the PHE Department to mobilise special cleanliness drives around the water supply source and tanks to ensure safe drinking water is supplied, especially during the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF),”
He said this during a district level steering committee meeting on IDCF, held in the conference hall of the Gyati Takka General Hospital, here on Wednesday.
Tsering also exhorted for active participation from all stakeholder departments to ensure complete coverage of targeted beneficiaries.
DANO Dr R Anku informed that ORS and zinc tablets shall be provided to the children below five years through household visits and establishing ORS/ zinc corners during the fortnight, while DDSE Hibu Tama suggested for intensive awareness programs in the schools as the target group is mostly concentrated in the schools.
In Tawang, a similar meeting was held on the same day under the chairmanship of EAC Dochora Lama at the DC’s conference hall.
During the meeting, the EAC asked all the departments to extend their support where ever possible to make the public aware about hand washing techniques to prevent diarrhoea and to get every child immunized.
Tawang DMO Dr Wangdi Lama informed that during the IDCF, the entire district of Tawang will be covered right from Luguthang to Zemithang.
“There should not be any death due to diarrhoea. It is preventable and we are working hard to bring awareness. The good news is that there has been no reported case of death due to diarrhoea in Tawang,” he added.
