ASBA to introduce badminton league

ITANAGAR, Sep 8: In a major step towards promoting badminton in Arunachal Pradesh, the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) has decided to introduce a badminton league in the state soon.
“The Arunachal badminton league will be introduced after getting approval from the Badminton Association of India,” said ASBA president Ratu Techi during the 6th annual general meeting held here on Saturday.
Acknowledging the initiatives of all the ASBA affiliated units for promotion of badminton in their respective districts, the ASBA president said a foreign coach would be hired to train the young players.
The state has 22 affiliated district badminton associations, including Capital Complex and the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy.
MLA Laisam Simai, who is also the ASBA vice president, also attended the meeting and offered his suggestions.
Later, the meeting unanimously adopted the annual administrative report of 2018-19, presented by the ASBA secretary; the audited accounts and financial statements for the 2018-19financial year, presented by the ASBA treasurer; and the ASBA’s annual calendar events for 2019-20, ASBA secretary Bamang tago stated in a press release.
The ASBA declared Lohit District Badminton Association as the ‘best tournament organizer’, Lepa Rada District Badminton Association as the ‘best performing association’ and the Lower Dibang Valley District Badminton Association as the ‘best promoter’ during 2018-19.
The association also felicitated the achievers in the first North East Olympic Games held in Manipur in 2018, and the North East Zone Interstate Badminton Championship, 2018, held in Nagaland, with cash incentives.
Raja Gupta and Akshay Raito won the men’s doubles title in the first NE Olympic Games, 2018. Pinky Karki, pairing with Taring Yania, won the women’s doubles title in the NE Zone Interstate Badminton Championships, 2018 at Kohima. Karki and Yania won the silver medal in the first NE Olympic Games, 2018.
Rahul Thapa and Tania Yasap won the sliver medal in the mixed doubles event in the NE Zone Interstate Badminton Championship, and the bronze medal in the NE Olympic Games, 2018.
Laa Yajum won the silver medal in the women’s singles in the NE Olympic Games, 2018. Sonam Tamang won the bronze in the men’s singles in the NE Olympic Games.
