Trg on preparing Bordeaux mixture imparted

LONGDING, Sep 8: Twenty-five farmers from Longhua and Samsatang villages took part in a two-day training programme on preparing Bordeaux mixture, organized here by the Longding KVK on 7 and 8 September.
The programme was aimed at teaching the farmers about preparing Bordeaux mixture, which is a fungicide to control fungal infestation.
Addressing the participants, KVK Head (in-charge) Dr A Kiran Kumar Singh emphasized on the importance of plant health management for bringing about prolific yields.
Plant protection scientist Dr Senpon Ngomle presented a demonstration on preparing Bordeaux mixture, and advised the farmers to prepare their own Bordeaux mixture instead of buying costly fungicides.
“The mixture is a combination of copper sulphate, lime and water, and its composition is easily available,” Dr Ngomle informed.
He also demonstrated the use of Bordeaux mixture in citrus orchards, and suggested to the participants to use it to control citrus canker, powdery mildew and downy mildew. He said applying Bordeaux mixture to disease-affected branches after pruning would protect the branches against fungal pathogens.
Animal science expert Dr T Tayo also spoke.
