Kalung Takhi-Maluk Romin win men’s open doubles’ title
RONO HILLS, Nov 23: Kalung Takhi and Maluk Romin clinched the men’s open doubles’ title at the 7th University Badminton League, 2019, which concluded at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here on Friday.
They defeated the duo of Opang Paron and Ongjong Chemchem 21-19, 21-12 in the final.
In the intra-club doubles’ competition, the pair of Dr David Pertin and Teli Momu beat Pitam Jomoh and Dr Gibji Nimasow 17-21, 24-22 and 21-18 in the final to win the title.
In another keenly contested match for the third place in the open category, Dr Gibji Nimasow and Karli Poyom beat Libi Kayi and Rokenso Tega in 2-1 sets (13-21, 21-17, 21-18).
The ‘best player of the championship’ award was bagged by Kalung Takhi of RGU’s physical education department. Pitam Jomoh was adjudged the ‘veteran player of the tournament’, and Dr Gibji Nimasow and Yage Riram won the awards for the ‘stylish player’ and ’emerging player’ of the tournament, respectively.
Cash prizes, along with trophies and medals were given away to the winners by RGU Computer Centre Joint Director Tsering Dorjee Megeji, RGU Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin, RGU Officers’ Club chairman Dr Gibji Nimasow, and the club’s convenor.
