LONGDING, Jan 17: Longding DC Cheshta Yadav inaugurated the legal aid clinic of the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in the JMFC court complex here on Thursday.
The clinic has been established with support from the justice department, under the Access to Justice North East & Jammu and Kashmir project.
The DC applauded the APSLSA and the Longding district legal services authority (DLSA) for establishing the clinic, and expressed hope that the people would avail its services as much as possible.
An ‘induction training’ programme for paralegal volunteers (PLV) and legal aid counsels was also conducted by the APSLSA and the Longding DLSA, covering matters such as function and activities of the legal services authority and legal aid clinics, the roles and responsibilities of PLVs and legal aid counsels, and various schemes of the NALSA and the state government.
Earlier, on 15 January, APSLSA Member Secretary Budi Habung, accompanied by Longding JMFC Epi Kapu, bar association president Wangtan Wangsu, and others, visited the under-trial prisoners’ cell here.
During the visit, the team discussed the challenges faced by the inmates in accessing legal assistance due to lack of a legal establishment in the cell, and gave assurance that steps would be taken to establish a legal aid clinic in the cell’s premises.
