ITANAGAR, Nov 18: A series of legal service awareness campaigns being conducted at various places of the state as part of the nationwide 10 days campaign ‘Connecting to Serve’, organized on the occasion of Legal Services Day from November 9 last onwards concluded on Saturday.
At Ziro, gaon burahs and gaon buris of Hong, Hari, Kalung-Reru and Tajang villages during a day-long camp at auditorium of Government Secondary School, Hari on Saturday were informed about various provisions of Legal Service Authority and legal aid clinic; function and powers of gaon burah and gaon buris under Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation Act, 1945 and the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 respectively.
Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Member Secretary DLSA, Ziro, Tageng Padoh highlighted the aims and objectives of the ongoing door to door campaign. He informed participants on existence of legal aid clinic in district court and suggested them to report to the Legal Service Authority there in case of a person meeting accidental death for availing financial assistants, provided the case is reported to the police.
He also suggested them to maintain a register in each village for recording the cases they have taken and solved, which would help in disposing the case early.
Awareness progr-ammes were also carried out at Tawang, Shyaro, Jang, Lumla, Dudunghar, Thingbu and Kitpi covering topics, like access to justice, fundamental rights, POCSO Act, domestic violence, Lok Adalat, free legal aid, etc.
Earlier, the campaign began with a walkathon which saw the participation of people from all walks of life, besides essay writing competitions amongst students of various schools of the headquarters.
Similar camps were also conducted at Darbu village, Dirang sub-division, Kalaktang and Thrizino in Bomdila, wherein West Kameng District Legal Service Authority Chairman, Gote Mega spoke on the functions of DLSA, poverty alleviation program etc.
President Bomdila Bar Association Advocate Khamu Desisaw spoke on the topic of child labour, local issues, land disputes, role of PRI in rural development, while General Secretary Bomdila Bar Association, Advocate Gombu Tsering Gonpapa spoke on POCSO Act, child marriage and Right to Education Act, 2009.
At Yupia, a legal awareness programme was conducted at district Jail Jollang, which was attended by Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner, Tai Kaye, Session Judge, Jweplu Chai, SP (Prison), Nabam Gungte, Tadu Tamang CJM, along with AOL members.
During the programme, prisoners were briefed about the legal counselling facilities and their benefits.
Yoga and motivational talk sessions were also held for the 141 prisoners under the supervision of yog guru Mrigandra Gogoi and Kayam Pertin of International Yog Vidya Gurukul Nashik
Further, the DC distributed TV sets, Tata Sky set and blankets to the prisoners as incentive from the government. (DIPROs)
