YUPIA, Apr 9: The Papum Pare district administration has set up four relief camps for stranded migrant labourers in Yupia, Kimin and Balijan.
The camps in Yupia have been made operational, SDPO Dekio Gumja informed while inspecting the relief camp at the urban development (UD) shopping complex here on Thursday.
“We have two camps in Yupia. There are 42 labourers at the UD shopping complex and another 27 at the government primary school camp. The camps in Kimin and Balijan have not been made operational yet,” Gumja said.
The stranded labourers at the camps are being provided with food and police security.
“These labourers were either trying to flee or were abandoned by their employers. We have kept a police official, so that they don’t break the quarantine measure, and also for their security,” the SDPO said.
He said the people of rural Papum Pare have been cooperative with the lockdown measures.
Meanwhile, Doimukh PS OC Inya Ete informed that three cases have been registered and 11 two-wheelers seized for violation of the lockdown order.
He said the Gumto check gate has been completely sealed and no movement of people is allowed.
“Even the railway track near the Assam boundary has been sealed. We carry out regular patrolling in the area,” the OC said.
He said the police have also set up pickets in various areas and are strictly monitoring them.
