ITANAGAR, Aug 31: Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy will be upgraded to higher secondary level from the next academic year.
Chairing a review cum co-ordination meeting with the Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) in his office on Thursday, the Chief Minister instructed the Sports Department to prepare a Cabinet note on the upgrade and submit it immediately for Cabinet approval.
He further asked the Sports Department to immediately submit a proposal for additional infrastructure required for the upgrade.
The Chief Minister further asked the Sports Department to speed up the proposal for creation of posts of coaches, district sports officers and assistant sports officers.
Sports Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak apprised the Chief Minister for inclusion of body building and wushu in job reservation for meritorious sportspersons, to which it was decided that the Sports Department will process for government approval for inclusion of these two sports.
Further, Pema appreciated the need for establishment of Arunachal Olympic Bhavan within the Capital Complex and asked the AOA to submit the report within three days for identifying suitable land.
He agreed on the AOA’s proposal for construction of a multipurpose indoor hall within the Capital Complex and informed that he will request the Prime Minister to include it as Prime Minister’s Package. He directed that detail proposal be submitted within a month.
Pema further proposed that two more sports schools may be created in the eastern and western parts of the state to cater to increasing demand for admission in sports schools.
The meeting also discussed on accommodation facilities for sportsperson in the state capital whenever state level competitions are held. The AOA apprised the Chief Minister that Youth Hostel in Naharlagun is in a horrible condition, including the accommodation for Scouts and Guides. The Chief Minister asked the department for early repair of these two facilities.
Sports Secretary Dani Salu, Sports Director Tadar Appa, Youth Affairs Director D K Dinglow, AOA Secretary Abraham Techi and other officials also attended the meeting.
