TAWANG, Sep 13: Tawang Badminton Association emerged overall champion in the 7th Greater Kameng Badminton Championship which concluded at Jang Indoor Stadium Tuesday.
Seppa Club and Bhalukpong Badminton Club finished first and second runners-up respectively. Seppa Club also won the ‘Best Disciplined Club’ trophy.
Over 180 shuttlers from Tawang, West Kameng and East Kameng districts participated in nine different categories.
Parliamentary Secretary for (RWD & SDE) Jambey Tashi, who attended the closing function, highlighted the state government’s various schemes, programmes and policies to transform the state into a sporting giant. He spoke about cash incentives and 10 percent job reservation in government departments for meritorious sportspersons.
He also said that efforts are on to equip every nook and corner of the state with quality sporting infrastructures like multipurpose halls, volleyball, basketball and football stadiums under ‘Khelo India’ scheme.
Expressing concern over the misuse of sports halls as godowns in some regions, he urged the leaders and officers to monitor and maintain the infrastructures. He also elaborated on the vitality of sports for an active and healthy life.
Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi also attended the valedictory event with public and Panchayat leaders and HoDs.
