ITANAGAR, Sep 18: The World Ozone Day 2017 was celebrated at Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, Zoological Survey of India at Senki Valley in Itanagar on September 16.
Addressing a gathering of scientists of Botanical Survey of India, students and faculty members of various educational institutes, Dr Shantabala Gurumayum, Scientist- D and Convener of World Ozone Day highlighted the importance of the ozone layer, and threats and initiatives to curb Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).
BSI Itanagar Officer In-charge, Dr V K Rawat spoke about the global initiatives taken to protect the ozone layer, while Dera Natung Government College, Head of the Department of Zoology, Dr P Nanda highlighted on the need to protect the ozone layer for the welfare of mankind and also all the biota of planet Earth.
G B Pant Institute, Scientist in Charge, Mahendra Singh Lodhi emphasized the involvement of students and public in protecting the ozone layer.
An interaction session was also held with the students.
On the occasion, two documentaries were showcased on the need to protect the ozone layer.
Painting competition for school children and slogan writing competition for college students was organized in the library of the APRC/ZSI. Winners were also awarded on the occasion.
