KAMALGHAT, Sep 21: Tripura Governor, Tathagata Roy handed over gold medals to 16 graduating students of the ICFAI University, Tripura during the convocation ceremony of the University at Kamalghat campus recently.
Altogether, 315 students graduated during 2016-17.
Subhrajit Das of Civil Engineering department was adjudged as overall topper and awarded with a second gold medal.
Padmashree awardee, legal educationist Professor N R Madhava Menon, Vice Chancellor Dr Ajay Pathak, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Biplab Halder and members of the Board of Governors handed over the certificates amongst the recipients.
The Governor, who is the Visitor of ICFAI University-Tripura, advised the management of the University to plan and execute better curriculum and pedagogy, ensure quality education and arrange for placement of students.
Professor Menon said that a good educational institute needs to work on scientific temperament of students, teaching method, digital technology and teaching-learning activity to make the organization a centre of excellence.
He further expressed concern over the violent agitation in the higher educational institutes perpetrated by the teacher politicians and student organizations and said, ‘educational institutions were becoming battle fields.’
Professor Menon also commented that many higher educational institutions were providing sub-standard education, but charging exorbitant fees, and hoped that the UGC and other regulatory authorities would look into these issues.
