Wangnia Pongte Memorial Football Tournament kicks off

United Miao FC trounce Learner FC

CHANGLANG, Oct 2: The third Wangnia Pongte Memorial Football Running Trophy for Men began at General Ground, Changlang amidst huge gathering of football lovers on Monday.
In the opening match, defending champion United Miao FC humiliated Learner FC (Pool A) 7-1 in a lopsided match.
United Miao FC was leading Learner FC 4-0 at half time with goal from Anand Singpho (3rd, 25th mins), Lopsam Bo (12th min) and Vivek Gurung (33rd min).
In the second half, Vivek Gurung pumped in three successive goals in 68th, 81st and 84th minutes to complete the drubbing of the team.
Monsam Mamai scored the lone goal for of Learners FC in 83rd minute.
In total, 25 teams from the district are participating in the tournament.
Earlier, prominent public leader Nongmin Kamba, who kicked off the tournament, cautioned youth not to be misguided by vested interests and engage themselves in healthy activities.
Another pubic leader of Changlang C Tehkhil remembered the good deeds of late Wangnia Pontgte towards the people of Changlang. He appealed to the youth to show respect to elders and concentrate on their prime duties without wasting time.
Parliamentary Secretary, Tesam Pongte, who is also chief patron of the tournament, dwelt on the objective of the tournament and urged youth to stay away from drug abuse.
Colourful dances performed by the children from Tutsa tribe were other attractions of the opening ceremony.
