Media orgs file case against NIT officials

ITANAGAR, Oct 13: Taking cognizance of the purported audio clips credited to National Institute of Technology (NIT) Assistant Registrar Taba Tadhe and Assistant Professor Dr. Swarnendu Kumar Chakraborty, which is being circulated on social media, wherein they alleged that the media persons demanded money to write in favour of administration in the current NIT students agitation, the state media fraternity on Friday lodged FIR against them at the Doimukh Police Station.
In the audio clip two persons allegedly Tadhe and Chakraborty are heard saying some media persons demanded Rs 50k to twist the news in favour of NIT authority.
The purported audio clip is believed to have been recorded by the agitating students during a meeting with the Assistant Registrar and Assistant Professor on the agitation.
A team of media persons led by Arunachal Press Club(APC) President Chopa Cheda visited the NIT and enquired with Assistant Professor Dr. Swarnendu Kumar Chakraborty.
After getting the details from Mr. Chakraborty, the media fraternity filed a complaint against the two with Doimukh Police Station, seeking strong action against them for defaming the media fraternity.
“If they have evidences, they should prove it, otherwise levelling a blatant allegation against media fraternity without any substance is highly condemnable and uncalled for,” said APC President.
“We are ready to accept criticisms but the criticism should be based on facts and figures rather than one sided-information”, Cheda added.
The fraternity in its joint FIR sought the help of police authority to unearth the truth for defaming media fraternity.
Maintaining that press never charges any amount for publication or reporting of news, the organisations made fervent appeal to the public to report to APC, APUWJ and AEMA if any journalist is found asking money for news.
“If the allegation levelled by the NIT officer and faculty in audio clip is proved to be real, disciplinary action will be initiated accordingly, once the journalist is identified” said APUWJ President Amar Sangno.
