NAHARLAGUN, Oct 24: A Mobile Inspection Team (MIT) of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs detected 25 cases of irregularities in weights and measures and package commodities and 21 cases of irregularities, like use of unverified weights and measures instruments and non-display of verification certificate during a surprise inspection at Polo Colony, Dam Site, G-Extension and Super Market here on Tuesday.
Led by Deputy Controller (HQ), D Marbom, the team also booked four cases for non-display of mandatory declaration on retail packages, smudging and overpricing of commodities in packages while checking prices of packaged commodities after implementation of GST.
The team instructed the traders about correct use of weights and measures, necessity of timely renewal and verification of weights and measures and advised them to refrain from any fraudulent practices, including overcharging of commodities during retail sale, unauthorized charging of GST, etc.
Further, the department urged all consumers to keep their vigil on any such mischievous trading activities and to report any such complaints to the nearest Legal Metrology Officer.
