NAHARLAGUN, Nov 5: One Stop Centre (OSC), Naharlagun organized a street play on domestic violence at Naharlagun daily market on Saturday.
The main aim of the programme was to bring awareness on violence against women in the name of customs and traditions in a male-dominated patriarchal society.
The theme of the play was based on violence against women in which a widow is shown being forced by her own brother-in-law to marry him. On the denial of the marriage, the widow is physical assaulted, sexual harassed, emotionally and mentally tortured as well.
Through the play, the Centre, which is located at old emergency ward of Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, has also spread awareness about the referral services provided in both emergency and non-emergency cases, including medical, legal and counselling under one roof to fight against any form of violence against women.
Students of the department of Social Work, Rajiv Gandhi University also participated in the play.
