ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The Aadhaar enrolment process in Arunachal Pradesh is going on smoothly in all the districts and over 11 lakh people in the state now have Aaadhaar numbers.
As on date, 11,23,057 people in the state have enrolled for Aadhaar, covering 72.60 percent of the projected mid-year (2015) population of 15,47000, according to a release issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UDAI), Regional Office, Guwahati.
Keeping in view the importance of Aadhaar number, the state government is making rigorous efforts to enrol the remaining population at the earliest.
In a bid to cover the left-out villagers and residents living in remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh, the District Administration had earlier conducted enrolment through camp-mode to facilitate Aadhaar enrolment to ensure sweep enrolment.
Apart from this, the Aadhaar enrolment and update centres have been established at PECs (Permanent Enrolment Centre), which are the DC offices, Circle offices, EAC offices, District Statistical offices, etc, to make Aadhar enrolment convenient for the locals.
The Ministry of Finance, Government of India has also instructed all the Scheduled Commercial Banks to set up Aadhaar enrolment and update centres in their bank branches.
The State Bank of India and the Axis Bank have set-up Aadhaar enrolment and update centres at their respective Itanagar branches. Other banks are also in the process to start Aadhaar enrolment soon.
Officials of the Department of Post have also been trained by UIDAI Regional Office to undertake Aadhaar enrolment. They are also expected to start Aadhaar enrolment and update their respective post office branches.
As per Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act of 2016, the central government or state government may use Aadhaar as an identifier for delivery of various subsidies, benefits or services to the residents, for which the expenditure is incurred from or the receipt from there forms part of the Consolidated Fund of India.
Till November 2017, Lohit recorded highest 96.26 percent Aadhaar enrolment, followed by Tirap (91.06%) and East Siang (88.20%).
