Union demands deletion of Chakma, Hajong names from electoral rolls

ITANAGAR, Dec 12: The All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) has claimed that the documents submitted by Chakmas for enrolment in the electoral roll of the 14-ST Doimukh Assembly Constituency were made in violation of Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950) by the electoral registration officer and the assistant electoral registration officer concerned.
The union alleged that the Chakmas did not produce citizenship certificates or citizenship registration proofs in Form 6 of the application but only enclosed electricity bills, Aadhar cards, and birth certificates as proof of being citizens of India.
Continuing its earlier demands, the APPDSU called for immediate deletion of the names of 627 Chakmas from the electoral roll of the constituency, and also called for deletion of Chakma and Hajong names from the electoral rolls in Namsai, Lohit, and Changlang districts – all affected by the refugee problem.
