Org registers protest over use of term ‘Sulung’ in APPSCCE Prelims

ITANAGAR, Dec 12: The East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) has written to the chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), registering strong protest over the use of the term ‘Sulung’ as one of the optional answers in the General Studies question paper of the recently held Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Combined Competitive Examination (Prelims).
‘We believe that the Commission epitomizes knowledge and professionalism, which is why your lack of awareness about the efforts of the EKSWCO and the Government of India to emancipate Puroiks from serfdom and slavery is shockingly disheartening,’ the organisation stated in its representation on Tuesday.
Even if the Commission were unaware of these efforts, the EKSWCO said, it should have known about the recent initiatives of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh for the welfare of the Puroik community.
‘While the use of the term “Sulung” has been abolished and the EKSWCO is striving to efface it from public memory, your question, set for future civil servants of the state, militates against it,’ it said. ‘Just imagine what attitude the civil servants, who you would pick from these exams, will have towards the downtrodden Puroik community.’
The organisation requested the APPSC to issue a corrigendum, ‘along with a public apology through the media,’ within 15 days, failing which, it said, it would initiate legal action against the Commission.
