PAKAM, Dec 13: School children were sensitized on the harmful effects of tobacco during an awareness programme organised at the government secondary school here by the West Siang District Tobacco Control Cell on 13 December.
Consultant Yomnya Badak explained the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, and advised the students to abstain from using tobacco. He also spoke on the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act through a PowerPoint presentation.
Social worker Obang Mize spoke about the ill-effects of smoking, chewing tobacco, and consuming other tobacco products.
Mize said that youths have been the main victims of tobacco, and that organising awareness camps in schools is necessary in order to have tobacco-free schools.
Later, the students were administered the anti-tobacco pledge. The headmaster and teachers of the school also attended the programme.
