ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering, has written to Union Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh, demanding compensation to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for the losses incurred by farmers and fishermen in the two states due to the contamination of the Siang river, which is known as the Brahmaputra in Assam.
Ering described the river as the lifeline of the two neighbouring states, and requested the union minister to compensate the state governments in order to help the local fishermen and farmers overcome their losses.
On Thursday, Ering had met Union Water Resources Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and placed the same request.
Ering has been raising the issue at the national level, and has written to several ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to draw attention towards the Siang river turning muddy.
