Union calls for check on illegal hunting, logging

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: The All Papum Poma Students’ Union has claimed that illegal activities like hunting, sale of game meat and logging are being carried out in Poma area due to the negligence of the personnel deputed at the Forest check gate there.
In a representation to the deputy chief wildlife warden on Thursday, the union urged him to direct his officials to ensure that the personnel posted at the check gate remain alert in order to prevent the illegal activities.
Informing that illegal hunting increases during the time of local festivals, it urged the authorities to ensure that the officials posted at the check gate conduct regular checking.
‘Uncontrolled hunting and selling of raw meat in the market pose a great threat to the area and the state as a whole,’ the union said.
It also alleged that the personnel deputed at the check gate mostly remain absent, which it said prompts people to indulge in such illegal activities.
