DIRANG, Feb 8: The ICAR-National Research Centre (ICAR-NRC) on Yak here in West Kameng district recently organised a training programme on ‘Yak handling and management’ for 101 ITBP personnel from different battalions, covering the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim and Haryana.
Held in five different batches, the three-day training focused on yak handling, diseases, nutrition, packability and health aspects.
During the valedictory function on 8 February, Dirang-based 30 SSB Bn CO, S Subramaniam impressed upon the participants the importance of yaks as pack animals in military and paramilitary forces.
He stressed that yaks should be used as pack animals to improve the economic status of yak rearers living in high altitudes.
ICAR-NRC on Yak Director, Dr P Chakravarty congratulated course director Dr Sourabh Deori and other faculty members of the institute for successfully completing the training.
Dirang-based 4 ITBP Bn Second-in-Command Pankaj Verma was also present during the occasion.
