ITANAGAR, Feb 16: Oriah festival of the Wancho tribe was celebrated with full traditional gaiety and fervour at the festival ground in Senki Park here on Friday.
Addressing the huge gathering, Tourism Minister Jarkar Gamlin said “the need of the hour is to protect tradition and culture as they are the identity of the tribal society.” He said every tribal festival sends out the message of unity.
Gamlin appealed to the people to use traditional attires and local dialects to encourage the younger generation to carry forward their legacy.
Special Secretary to CM, Himanshu Gupta emphasized on the need for unity among all sections of the society, and on celebrating festivals in traditional attires.
“The traditional attires and colourful dresses of different tribes of the state show the rich diversity of the state,” he said.
Consumer Affairs Parliamentary Secretary Laisam Simai urged the people to uphold the culture and traditional values of the tribes.
Celebration committee general secretary Abom Ngoan also spoke.
The daylong celebration featured bamboo dance, war dance, several cultural presentations, and prize distribution for the sports events held earlier.
