Tolum dedicates two Nyokum Namlos to people on Nyokum

YAZALI, Feb 22: Nyishi Elite Society (NES) president and Central Nyokum Celebration Committee chairman Bengia Tolum dedicated two Nyokum Namlos at the Yazali general ground on Thursday.
Tolum said Namlos are assets which need to be preserved for years together.
He thanked the Urban Development department, especially Chief Engineer cum Director Taba Tedir who initiated the scheme and got the approval from the state government.
He further appealed to the members for proper upkeep of the property for the community, while adding that it can be leased out on special occasions for revenue generation.
Chief Engineer cum Urban Development Director Taba Tedir informed that the Namlo was constructed in eight months.
The fund amounting to rupees two crore fifty lakhs under the SIDF 2016-17 was judiciously used, he said, while expressing satisfaction at the work done by the Ziro Division UD led by Deputy Director SC Maru.
Several eminent personalities of the area, including executive members of the Nyishi Elite Society, Central Nyokum Celebration Committee, HoDs, PRI members, local leaders and general public of the area were present on the occasion.
Yazali is celebrating the golden jubilee year of Nyokum and preparations are going on full swing.
Meanwhile, Cultural, Games and sports events marked the inaugural day of the 44th Nyokum Yullo festival at the indoor stadium of Lower Nyapin in Kurung Kumey district on Tuesday last.
Speaking on the occasion, state vice-president protocol Bharatiya Janata Yuwa Morcha (BJYM), Tadar Raja exhorted all to preserve and promote the culture and traditions of the Nyishi tribe.
Papum Pare unit BJYM vice-president, Ngorang Anung urged the people as well as to the organizing committee to refrain from giving political colour to such festivals.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing games and sports events, the team of Upper Nyapin PR Segment thrashed Gyamar PR Segment by 5-2, while Hiya-II PR Segment defeated Paji PR Segment by 2-0 to reach the men’s Nyokum Yullo Football Cup semi-finals.
In the women’s football quarter-finals, Lower Nyapin PR Segment edged over Laba PR Segment by 2-0 goals.
