PASIGHAT, Feb 22: A six-day hands-on training on ‘Molecular Techniques’ under Institutional Advanced Level Biotech Hub Project for the technical staff, research scholars and students of different domains of agriculture, horticulture and allied disciplines started at the College of Horticulture & Forestry, Central Agricultural University (CAU), here on Thursday.
The objective of the training programme, which is sponsored by the department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, GoI, is to create biotechnological awareness and popularize biotechnological knowhow among participants.
Prof BN Hazarika, Dean, College of Agriculture spoke about the recent advances in tissue culture of horticultural plants.
He urged the scientists of the different departments to use the molecular tools and techniques for production of quality planting material.
Assistant Prof (Biotechnology) cum Course Director Dr Amit Kumar Singh highlighted the objectives of the six days training programme in detail as well as the mandates of establishing biotech hubs in the NE region and importance of molecular techniques in agriculture sciences.
A total of 40 technical staff, research scholars and students from different departments of the college and other institutions are attending the training.
