Itanagar, Feb 24: A mass tree plantation programme on the occasion of Nyokum Yullo festival-2018 was carried out across Nyapin Township in Kurung Kumey district on Saturday with the theme, ‘Green & Clean Nyapin and Stop Global Warming’.
Nyapin ADC Kento Riba, department staffs, school students, and public joined the mass tree plantation programme spearheaded by Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee Nyapin-2018.
A total of 550 saplings were planted at the premises of ADC Office, Inspection Bungalow, Tadar Tang Memorial Community Health Centre, Government Higher Secondary School, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya.
Lauding the NYCCN’s innovative way of celebrating the festival, ADC Riba on the other hand appealed to the concerned HoDs to take proper care of the planted saplings.
Extending gratitude to the participants for taking active part in the programme, NYCCN general secretary Tadar Chachung said, “tree plantation programme is the manifestation of Nyokum Yullo festival which is celebrated by the Nyishi community of the state for co-existence between human beings and mother earth.”
The saplings were sponsored by Kurung Kumey District Forest Officer Gyamar Nima.
Earlier, NYCCN chairman Gyamar Kuba unfurled the festival flag and also inaugurated the food and exhibition stalls at festival ground this morning.
While addressing the gathering chairman Kuba urged all to celebrate the festival without discriminating other religions.
At Bhalukpong, Parliamentary Secretary for RD, Mama Natung attended the festivities on Saturday and said, “It is the need of the hour to preserve one’s culture and tradition as they define our identity and existence”.
Chief patron of the festival, Parliamentary Secretary PHE & WS Kumsi Sidisow praised the Nyokum Yullo Festival Committee for truly celebrating ‘unity in diversity’.
Bhalukpong witnessed cultural groups from all over the state participating in the Nyokum Yullo celebration, including the Adis, Apatanis, Hrusso Akas, Koro Aka, Gorkhas, Adivasis, Boros and many others.
The people of the Langte-Lotey under Nyapin circle residing in the Capital Complex celebrated Nyokum Yullo in a befitting manner at Tegdo-Pachin, Naharlagun on Saturday.
Inaugurating the event this evening, Sagalee PHED Division Executive Engineer Teli Dutto Camdir called upon the people to preserve and promote the indigenous culture and tradition.
The festival, which has been celebrated since 1967, needs to be carried forward and passed on to younger generations, Camdir said and appealed to everyone to maintain communal harmony and brotherhood.
LLNYCC-2018 chief advisor Tadar Mangku, culture secretary Tadar Kachi also addressed the gathering.
AAPSU women wing general secretary Kipa Yanu, former ALSU president Tadar Tarish, AKKDSU president Bengia Anthony, former AAPSU Chief Auditor Tarh Tahi were judges of the cultural events.
