BOMDILA, Mar 23: “Buddhism is not about monks, monasteries, gongs and trumpets only; it encompasses and symbolizes peace and welfare of all living beings,” opined local legislator Japu Deru.
Deru, who inaugurated the much-awaited Buddhist cultural-cum-conference hall at the Buddha Park here on Friday, said Buddhism as a whole could play a vital role in nation-building.
The cultural-cum-conference hall should be the cradle of all welfare activities and other pioneering works for the people of the district, irrespective of their religious affiliations, he said.
Acknowledging the role played by the Bomdila Buddhist Society (BBS) in completion of the much-awaited cultural centre, West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop said every effort should be made to keep the centre in pristine form.
“This is an asset of the district and we must maintain it properly,” she said.
Earlier, BBS president Dorjee Phuntso expressed hope that the cultural-cum-conference hall would facilitate “planning, shaping and execution of all the issues that would be taken up for the welfare of the people.”
Among others, SSB DIG S Kumar, ZPC C Lamu, administrative officers, HoDs, public leaders, monks, BBS office bearers, and engineers of the WRD, who executed the work, attended the inaugural function. (DIPRO)
